Hilleman Laboratories and Gotovax AB have announced a collaboration to come out with cheaper and significantly more effective oral vaccine.
This is going to great hope for people across South Asia and Africa where the dreaded disease killed millions and millions of people.
Davinder Gill, the CEO of Hilleman Labs says that the forthcoming vaccine that is under final pre-clinical studies will be much more effective compared to any other vaccine available right now across the world. He claimed that it would be around ninety percent more effective than vaccines available in markets. He went on to add that the under trial vaccine will also provide protection against diarrhoea that is caused by Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli.

Gill said, “There is an urgent need for highly effective and affordable Cholera vaccines both for outbreaks as well as mass vaccination campaigns…Cholera is endemic in over 50 countries with estimated mortality of 100,000-120,000 deaths each year and a morbidity of 3.8-4.4 million annual cases attributed to this disease”. Gill in another interview to an Indian publication said, “Our ‘thermostable technologies will enhance the stability of the formulation, making the vaccine more attractive for worldwide stockpiling purposes”.
