The non-stop evolution of technology

The non-stop evolution of technology

Monday, 24 March 2014

We are living in a world where technology is constantly changing -- from once a simple battery operated watch to a solar-powered hologram watch where you can see the person you are talking to from your wrist. Well not exactly, butwearable tech will break that barrier.
Finextra blogger Henry Woodcock reports today that wearable technology may be the new digital wallet. Woodcock mentions he finally joined the “smart watch” clan by purchasing the Pebble smartwatch.
“At first I felt a little geekish wearing the shiny black device,” Woodcock confessed. “but as I started to master what it could do, and how to tailor my notifications to suit me I was quite impressed.”
In a report on December 27, 2013, by Strategy Analytics predicted that the Wearable Device Ecosystems (WDE) service, global smartwatch sales will grow to a little over +500% this year.
“We expect technology heavyweights -- such as Samsung, Apple, Sony, Microsoft, Qualcomm and Google -- to expand the market significantly in coming years. The United States, Western Europe, China and developed Asia will be the leading territories to target for volume and value,” they report.
But apparently wrist watches is not the only thing getting an upgrade of some sort. Eyeglasses will be getting a digital makeover, too. USA Today reported yesterday that Epiphany Eyewear is developing smart glasses, to embrace your inner nerd. Similar to Google Glass, these glasses are more sleeker than what some would say “wearing a computer on your face.”
Tucked discreetly in the glasses, it has been reported that the eyewear has an HD video camera with wide-angle optics, with a hidden one-button control that signals the shades to begin recording. The glasses can be equipped with up to 32GB of storage and can be synced with cloud storage and cross-platform web software. Very interesting; it’s something from a sci-fi movie.
The price for these nerd-tastic smart glasses starts around $300, Epiphany comes with dark or clear lenses, and you are able to use your own prescription lens in as well. Soon we will be walking around with spy gear -- that’s evolution of technology.
